Inquiry Findings
Federal investigators revealed that the jet’s wing burst into flames and an power plant detached just after liftoff from the Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport, causing the plane to fall and erupt into a blaze.
The National Transportation Safety Board stated it is probing the plane’s maintenance history, which was in the state for repairs a period ahead of the crash.
Flight tracking information showed the jet was on the tarmac in the Texas city from early September to mid-October.
“We are knowledgeable that this plane was there in San Antonio,” said an NTSB member on the following day, without providing a precise date range. “We will look at all elements of maintenance that was performed, from the Texas period, straight to the date of the trip.”
Recovery of Vital Components
The audio device and flight data recorder were recovered, and the engine was found on the runway.
The units – referred to as black boxes – were designed to withstand crash impacts and intense temperatures from blazes, and they seemed to be undamaged when found amid the remains. Authorities plan on analyzing recordings from the black boxes.
The plane’s last flight details showed an elevation of 475 ft and a velocity of that speed ahead of the accident.
